Last year, two of the Oscar contenders who came up short for their hotly buzzed about projects were Scott Cooper and Adam Sandler. Cooper wrote and directed Springsteen: Deliver Us From Nowhere, while Sandler had a plum supporting role in Jay Kelly. Both ended up shut out by the Academy. Now, they’re teaming up for a psychological drama. More below.
According to Variety, Sandler will star in Time Out for Cooper, with Netflix as its home. The film is remake of the French psychological drama L’Emploi Du Temps, with the supporting cast including F. Murray Abraham, Willem Dafoe, Gaby Hoffmann, Steve Zahn, and more. The movie centers on a man who gets fired from his job, but can’t bring himself to tell his wife and family. So, he lies, ultimately creating an investment scheme and even asking his friends to contribute to it. Christian Bale had been circling the project as a potential reunion with Cooper, though now it seems like the role has gone to Sandler. More when we have it.

That sounds like a killer premise and I actually liked Adam Sandler quite a bit in a movie I otherwise hated, but… Scott Cooper just doesn’t “work” for me. He’s not a bad filmmaker, but I don’t find him particularly compelling, either.
