Project Hail Mary just gets bigger by the day. Now having already broken the $100 million mark in only four days, the film is fully a part of the zeitgeist. There’s no signs of that slowing down, as Rocky is becoming the new Baby Yoda, while speculation (here by our own Joey Magidson) has already turned to potential Oscar hopes, given how beloved it is (Joey’s rave, if you missed it, is here). Well, there might also be further adventures for Ryland Grace and Rocky, though nothing is set in stone. Read on to see what’s potentially brewing.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, all involved are open to a sequel. The article talks a lot about Ryan Gosling‘s enthusiasm for the material and the major hand he had in getting the movie made, but it also gets into what could be next. Apparently, author Andy Weir will control whether it happens or not, which means it will be about if he pens a sequel or not, which would be a career first. Weir has a secret new novel in the works, but after that, he’s supposedly considering a sequel, which could be for Project Hail Mary. If that happens, an adaptation would surely follow, but we’re a ways off from that. So, stay tuned for now.
