Interview: An Emotional Chat About ‘All of Us Strangers’ with Andrew Scott

If you look at almost anyone’s current Oscar predictions (and I hope at the very least, you’re looking at mine), you’ll notice that Andrew Scott is racing up the Best Actor charts. Now, plenty of you will know him, and his work, whether it be in 1917, Catherine Called Birdy, Fleabag, or Spectre, but All of Us Strangers puts him on a different level. There’s a reason he’s threatening to crash the Best Actor race. Earlier in the week, I shared my conversation with writer/director Andrew Haigh (here) about this film, as well as my discussions with Claire Foy (here) and Jamie Bell (here). Today, we wrap up the All of Us Strangers interviews with none other than Scott himself.

Back at Telluride Film Festival (here), I wrote a bit about the cast, led by Scott:

Andrew Scott is best in show, though all four of the main characters are solid. Scott has the most screen time and has to go to the biggest places, but he does it with just the right amount of subtlety. Paul Mescal is a bit more stock of a character, but he realizes him with a ton of specificity. As for Jamie Bell and Claire Foy, they’ll just straight up break your heart. The scenes with Bell, Foy, and Scott are where this film really wrecked me.

Below, you can see my chat with Scott. I was really interested to hear about the filming experience, since he has to essay a character that can mean so many different things to different people. He does it impeccably too, so hearing about the how of it all was fascinating. Now that All of Us Strangers is continuing to expand, if you haven’t seen the movie yet, get on that ASAP so you can understand what all of the fuss about Scott is about…
