In a rather surprising (but welcomed) piece of news today, Deadline reports that Scott Cooper is set to write and direct Deliver Me From Nowhere, a biopic that will chronicle Bruce Springsteen’s journey to release his 1982 album, Nebraska. The film is based on Warren Zaines‘s book of the same name.
Moreover, Jeremy Allen White is currently the top choice to portray The Boss, with A24 in talks to distribute the film. Scott Stuber, who previously worked at Netflix, has teamed up with Ellen Goldsmith-Vein and Eric Robinson to bring it to life.
Allen White is currently shooting seasons three and four of The Bear, but the film is slated to start production in the fall. Season four will wrap in June, giving him plenty of time to secure a deal. Springsteen is set to be heavily involved in the project, which will be Cooper’s second music-themed film after his feature directorial debut, Crazy Heart, which went on to receive plenty of accolades, including a Best Actor win for Jeff Bridges at the Academy Awards.
Who knows if this film will be an awards venture for A24 and White, but it’s certainly exciting to see a major motion picture on Springsteen being made. After Bob Dylan gets the screen treatment once again for James Mangold’s A Complete Unknown, which recently began production, it’s about damn time The Boss gets a movie!
