With Cillian Murphy winning the Best Actor Oscar for his turn as J. Robert Oppenheimer, Universal Pictures will now partner with the actor once more in a drama based on Blood Runs Coal: The Yablonski Murders and the Battle for the United Mine Workers of America by Mark A. Bradley.
According to Deadline, Murphy will lead and produce the movie, which will tell the story of “a corrupt union leader who murders a rival and is taken down by the lawyer son of the slain coal miner.” Jez Butterworth and John-Henry Butterworth will co-write the screenplay. Alongside Murphy, Alan Moloney, John Davis, and Jordan Davis will produce the picture, with Mark A. Bradley executive producing.
Not much is known about when production would start, but Murphy is currently rumored to star in a Peaky Blinders film, which could start filming much sooner than later.

Not surprised. If an actor who won an Oscar for headlining one of the biggest box office smash hits my studio produced since the COVID-19 outbreak, I’d give him carte blanche to produce and star in whatever project he wanted, too.
