Here is the press release:

The Palm Springs International Film Awards has announced that Netflix’s La Bola Negra is the recipient of the International Star Award. Directors Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, as well as actors Guitarricadelafuente, Miguel Bernardeau and Penélope Cruz, are expected to attend the award presentation. The Film Awards will take place on January 7, 2027, at the Palm Springs Convention Center, with the festival running January 7-18, 2027. The event will be presented by Kering and sponsored by Entertainment Tonight and Soho House with Cadillac as the official vehicle.

“With La Bola Negra, Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi have created a beautiful and moving film that brings together stories across generations and cultures,” said Festival Chairman Nachhattar Singh Chandi. “Guitarricadelafuente brings such honesty and heart to his first film role, joined by Miguel Bernardeau as the film’s emotional anchor and Penélope Cruz in an unforgettable turn as Nené. We are delighted to recognize the talent and hard work that went into bringing this special film to life and to honor La Bola Negra with the International Star Award at the Palm Springs International Film Awards.”

A bold tapestry spanning nearly a century of Spanish history, La Bola Negra tells the story of three generations of men whose lives are intimately connected through desire, pain, and love in this celebrated film from Cannes-winning directors Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi. Directed by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, the film stars Guitarricadelafuente, Miguel Bernardeau, Carlos González, Milo Quifes, Lola Dueñas, Julio Torres, Penélope Cruz and Glenn Close. La Bola Negra has won 16 Audience Awards at film festivals around the world, including top honors at the Toronto International Film Festival and BFI London Film Festival. The film made its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, where it received a 20-minute standing ovation and earned Calvo and Ambrossi the Best Director prize.

La Bola Negra joins this year’s previously announced honorees The Invite including Seth Rogen, Olivia Wilde, Penélope Cruz, Edward Norton (Vanguard Award); Inde Navarette (Rising Star Award); and Martin McDonagh (Outstanding Achievement in Directing Award).

Last year’s recipient of the International Star Award was the cast of Sentimental Value (Renate Reinsve, Stellan Skarsgård, Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas, and Elle Fanning), where the full cast of Sentimental Value were all nominated for the Academy Awards.
