Joey’s Home Movies For the Week of December 28th – ‘The Last Shift’ on the Last Week of 2020

Sony Pictures

Welcome back to my Home Movies! Today, we once again don’t have a ton of new releases, so we look back a tiny bit more, especially with the end of the year upon us. That being said, it’s not a complete wasteland, as this week also sees the release of The Last Shift, which is a solid indie option. Read on for more as we continue to but a bow on the dumpster fire that is/was 2020…

Joey’s Top Pick

The Last Shift

Sony Pictures

The Last Shift is an interesting independent comedy, one that gives Richard Jenkins one of his more unique roles to date. It may be jarring at first to see Jenkins in food service, but he plays the character incredibly well. Jenkins and Shane Paul McGhie are both excellent here, elevating a somewhat simple premise. Without much else to consider, this indie is the top pick by default, but even in a fuller week, it would be something to consider. Pick it up today and see what you think! Plus, you can hear my interview with Jenkins and McGhie right here if you need a little extra incentive.

Recommended Viewing

With the year coming to an end in a few days, there isn’t much new hitting shelves, obviously. Such is the nature of the beast, especially with how many few titles were out this year, anyway. At the same time, definitely use this as an opportunity to dive back into the Home Media archives for some extra recommendations. Last week, we did a few to tie into last minute Christmas shopping. Now, there’s no gifts to be bought. Today, you can just look to fill in your 2020 blind spots with some of my personal favorites!

Also Available This Week

Samuel Goldwyn Films

Faith

Honest Thief

The Last Warriors

Triggered

Enjoy the rest of 2020 and here’s to a much better 2021!
