Welcome back to my Home Movies! Today, we don’t have a ton of new releases, so we look back, especially with the holidays upon us. That being said, this week also sees the release of Kajillionaire, which will appeal to some. Read on for more…

Joey’s Top Pick

Kajillionaire

Focus Features

A quirky comedy from Miranda July, there’s some really strong acting on display here from Richard Jenkins, Gina Rodriguez, Debra Winger, and Evan Rachel Wood. It’s an odd duck, but if you enjoy July’s flicks, it’s certainly worth picking up, whether you’ve seen it already or not. Plus, it has a really nice and fully unexpected ending. For more on Kajillionaire, listen to my interview with Jenkins here.

Recommended Viewing

Warner Bros.

With Christmas on Friday, perhaps you’re looking for a last minute gift for the cinephile in your life? If so, definitely look back on the prior weeks of the Home Movies column (here) for some great recommendations. Specifically, the extended cuts of The Lord of the Rings trilogy in 4K is a gift highlight, for sure. Plus, there’s the Criterion Collection edition of Martin Scorsese‘s The Irishman. Throw in Christopher Nolan‘s recently released Tenet (also on 4K) and there are some high end options here. Other top tier possibilities, film quality wise? The Invisible Man, Never Rarely Sometimes Always, and The Way Back are three more. You can’t go wrong there.

Also Available This Week

101 Studios

The 100: The Complete Series (TV)

The Craft: Legacy

Villains

The War with Grandpa

Happy Holidays and enjoy the Home Movies!
