Moments ago, the 79th Cannes Film Festival came to a close, marking the moment with the announcement of its annual awards. The prizes at Cannes seemed to be even more wide open than usual this year, so truly almost every title was in the mix. The competition jury, headed by Park Chan-wook, has made their decision, giving the coveted Palme d’Or to Fjord from Cristian Mungiu. Unsurprisingly, NEON has continued its winning streak, even if I went a different way in my predictions (found here). Valentin Campagne and Emmanuel Macchia share Best Actor for Coward, while Virginie Efira and Tao Okamoto won Best Actress for All of a Sudden. Runner-up for the Palme, the Grand Prix, went to Minotaur from Andrey Zvyagintsev. The rest of the prizes can be seen below.
