20th Century Studios Picks Up Martin Scorsese’s Hawaii Crime Project with Leonardo DiCaprio, Dwayne Johnson, and Emily Blunt

It sounds like it’s full steam ahead for one of Martin Scorsese‘s many potential next projects. We recently reported that he was circling a Hawaii-set crime thriller package with Leonardo DiCaprio, Dwayne Johnson, and Emily Blunt attached to star. Now, a studio has come picked it up, likely moving the film to the front of the line.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Studios has landed this Scorsese movie. Written by Nick Bilton, THR reports in their piece that the untitled project “is said to be in the mold of Scorsese’s Goodfellas and The Departed and center on a mob boss vying for control of the Hawaiian islands in the 1960s and 1970s.” The article has more details, but with 20th Century involved, there’s a very good chance this gets made, and sooner rather than later.

I’ll approach any Martin Scorsese project with an open mind, but I felt like The Irishman was intended to be his last word on the genre? What else could he get out of the mobster movie after that one?
