Awards Radar Community: Which 2024 Movies Would You Play As a Video Game?

Last week, there was a fun little thing going around on social media where movies were being made into fake video games. It was Oscar fare as video game, which really amused me. It also inspired me to wonder about other films that had game potential. So, a new Awards Radar Community Question was formed. If you could play a 2024 release in video game form, what would it be?

For reference, here, here, and here are the posts that I saw online. Would one of those games interest you? If so, let us know. The Brutalist as a video game is hilarious to me, given how odd of a fit that would be. At the same time, there are flicks that definitely could work. Musicals as games have potential, to be sure. If one of these fit for you, definitely chime in.

Maybe you’re inclined to pick something else? On the latest episode of the podcast, I asked Myles which video game he would pick, while I offered up some ideas of my own. You can hear them on the episode, but there really is a range of answers. Maybe Heretic as a survival horror outing? If you use your imagination, the possibilities are almost endless, especially if you have a sense of humor about it…

The choice is now yours. Which 2024 films would you have enjoyed as a video game? Whatever the answer is, we’re keen to know. Consider this a bit of fun before the Oscar nominations hit. It has been a hard time for the industry and movie lovers, so take this as an opportunity to laugh a bit, if you’re in the mood. Have fun with this!

I think Joker: Folie à Deux would be a great video game. Imagine how much fun it would be to spend several minutes at a time staring at loading screens in between the jail and courtroom levels (the only two playable areas), and being lectured by the Lead Designer about how badly we misunderstood the first game and we should be ashamed of ourselves for wanting a sequel to it at all?

Kidding aside, I feel like the 2024 film that most closely aligned with the mechanics and internal logic of a video game was Trap: “Talk to the security guard character to attain the ‘Dreamer Girl’ achievement for your daughter!” “Learn the security password to gain access to the rooftop area!”
