He has notably won five Japan Academy Film Prizes, and has worked some of the most prominent Japanese directors including Hirokazu Kore-eda, Takeshi Kitano, Nagisa Ōshima, Takashi Miike, Nobuhiko Obayashi, and Kiyoshi Kurosawa.
After garnering significant acclaim over the past 25 years of his career, he has now received his first Emmy nomination for the role of Lord Kashigi Yabushige in Shōgun.

Billy Crudup’s career has spanned between stage and screen over the last two plus decades, with his greatest awards success coming from the Tony’s as a four-time nominee with one win for his performance in Tom Stoppard’s play The Coast of Utopia (2007).
His Emmy acclaim started in 2020 with the role he is currently nominated for as Cory Ellison in The Morning Show, his third nomination while playing the character.
Mark Duplass

Alongside cast mate Billy Crudup, Mark Duplass’s Emmy recognition has also come through his run with The Morning Show with one previous nomination for the role of Chip Black. Duplass also adds an Emmy win for Outstanding Documentary as a producer for Wild Wild Country (2018).
Much of his career is a credit to the film production company he founded with his brother Jay which has spawned Baghead (2008), Cyrus (2010), and Creep (2014) among others. Duplass is known for his improvisational style of comedy that appears in roles such as his work in the FX series The League.

As one of three supporting actors nominated for The Morning Show, and with 18 nominations to date now, Hamm is the highest acclaimed actor in this category in 2024.
Takehiro Hira

Similar to Shōgun cast mate Tadanobu Asano, Hira gained experience and acclaim in his native home of Japan. While working with his father Mikijirō Hira, another Japanese actor, Takehiro starred in a production of Othello and in the NHK taiga drama Atsuhime.
Hira has crossed over to American film productions in recent years with roles in Lost Girls & Love Hotels (2020), Snake Eyes (2021), and Gran Turismo (2023). Shōgun is his first Emmy nomination.

Jack Lowden is a Scottish actor known for his versatile performances across film, television, and stage. He first garnered attention for his stage work, winning an Olivier Award in 2014 for his role in the play Ghosts. This recognition propelled him into the film world, where he starred in the 2016 war drama War & Peace and played a standout role in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk (2017).
Lowden continued to build his profile with acclaimed roles in films such as Mary Queen of Scots (2018) and Fighting with My Family (2019). In 2022, Lowden took on a leading role in the Apple TV+ series Slow Horses, playing River Cartwright, a disillusioned MI5 agent relegated to a group of misfit spies. This role earned him his first Primetime Emmy nomination.
Jonathan Pryce

Jonathan Pryce first gained prominence on stage, winning his first Tony Award in 1977 for his role in Comedians. He continued his theatrical success with roles in productions such as Miss Saigon, where he earned a second Tony Award in 1991, and Hamlet.
Pryce transitioned to film in the 1980s, with notable performances in Terry Gilliam’s dystopian classic Brazil (1985) and Glengarry Glen Ross (1992). His work throughout the 1990s and 2000s included key roles in blockbusters like Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) and Pirates of the Caribbean (2003–2007). His portrayal of Pope Francis in The Two Popes (2019) earned him widespread acclaim and an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.
By 2022, Pryce joined the cast of Netflix’s The Crown, playing Prince Philip in its fifth and sixth seasons. He added a nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for Slow Horses in 2024 as well.
