New Season Premieres Across Disney+ and BBC in First Global Simultaneous Launch for the Series
Grab your sonic screwdrivers and get ready because it was announced today the premiere date for the next two Doctor Who installments may be sooner than expected. The new Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) and his companion Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson) will land in the U.S. on Friday, May 10, at 7:00 p.m. EDT on Disney+ for a double-episode premiere. In the UK, the season will kick off Saturday, May 11, at 12:00 a.m. GMT on BBC iPlayer, followed by BBC One later that day.
The Fifteenth Doctor made his first appearance during “The Giggle,” the last of three 2023 specials Doctor Who which marked the return of fan favorites David Tennant and Catherine Tate to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the long running series. His arrival, while announced well in advance, surprised viewers with a first ever bi-generation, a regeneration that allowed both Tennant and Gatwa’s Doctors to co-exist in the same timeline.
Gatwa and Gibson had a chance to show off their time-traveling skills for the “The Church on Ruby Road” the latest of the series long traditions of Christmas Specials. Since then fans have been eagerly awaiting their return. Now that fans know the date they can also start anticipating the brand-new trailer from Disney+ which will debut next Friday, March 22.
According to the official press release, “This season of “Doctor Who” follows the Doctor and Ruby Sunday through infinite adventures across time and space in the TARDIS. From the Regency era in England to war-torn futures, the duo champion the forces of good while encountering incredible friends and dangerous foes.
Showrunner, executive producer and writer Russell T Davies said: “At last, it’s my great delight to unleash a whole new season of the Doctor and Ruby’s adventures together. Monsters! Chases! Villains! Mysteries! And a terrifying secret that’s been spanning time and space for decades. Don’t miss a second!”
This season will deliver a long list of guest stars including Aneurin Barnard, Anita Dobson, Yasmin Finney, Michelle Greenidge, Jonathan Groff, Bonnie Langford, Genesis Lynea, Jemma Redgrave, Lenny Rush, Indira Varma and Angela Wynter.
