Eva Longoria had to fight to make Flamin’ Hot. On the surface, it may seem like a fun little movie, but there’s so much going on here, both for Longoria, as well as her audience. It’s a film with a ton of cultural significance, with an already signature stamp from the actress turned director. Recently, I had the opportunity to talk about the flick with her. Today, I’m thrilled to bring that discussion to you all!
Below, you can see my chat with Longoria. We joke around a bit at the outset, especially considering my newfound interest in Flamin’ Hot Funyuns, but the main thrust of the conversation is about the meaning of the work to her. The passion that Longoria puts forth is evident while watching the movie, as well as well chatting with her. If you missed Flamin’ Hot earlier this year, now is a perfect moment to catch up with it. If you’ve already seen it, give it another watch, now with all of this added background information!
In my review of the film (here), I had this to say about Longoria’s debut behind the camera:
Eva Longoria makes her directorial debut an assured one, helming with confidence and conviction. The screenplay by Lewis Colick and Linda Yvette Chávez is fairly by the numbers, hitting all the moments you’d expect, but done so in a manner that goes down easy. It’s not quite the Disney version of things, but it’s not too far off. Flamin’ Hot is clearly important to Longoria, so she certainly is giving her all here. I’m definitely keen to see her direct again very soon.
Here now is my interview with Flamin’ Hot director Eva Longoria. Enjoy:
