Tonight, ABC will be broadcasting The Wonderful World of Disney: Disney’s 100th Anniversary Celebration, which is something not to be missed for many reasons. One such reason I can vouch for firsthand, since last month when I was attending a preview of Wish (detailed here), I was shown Once Upon a Studio as well. What is that, you might ask? Well, it’s the most delightful short that Disney has put out in years. I spoke to the short’s filmmakers Dan Abraham and Trent Correy, as well as producers Yvett Merino and Brad Simonsen. With its premiere coming this evening, I’m bringing those conversations to you now.
Once Upon a Studio is an utter delight. Bringing together almost every animated character from Disney’s 100 year history (as well as, whenever humanly possible, the original voice of the character), it’s a love letter to the stories we’ve all grown up on. I don’t want to spoil anything, but watching these various interactions made my heart swell. It’s truly something special, as you’ll see in a few short hours.
Below, you can hear my chats with Abraham, Correy, Merino, and Simonsen. I was fascinated to hear about how this incredible endeavor came together, and boy did they all deliver. You’ll hear about who was excited to participate, what it took, and just how proud they all are of the final product. Give these a listen, of course, but obviously check out Once Upon a Studio tonight. After it shows during the special on ABC, you’ll also be able to see it attached to Wish next month. So, you’ll have absolutely no excuses…
Here now are my interviews with Once Upon a Studio filmmakers Dan Abraham and Trent Correy, as well as producers Yvett Merino and Brad Simonsen. Enjoy:
