Pixar Debuts a Teaser for ‘Luca’

2020 was a rare year where we were treated to two Pixar offerings within the span of 12 months, first with Onward in March, and later with Soul in December. There’s just one film set from the studio for 2021, but we’re already getting our first look at it, as the studio has dropped the trailer for their next release, titled Luca

The new Pixar offering marks the feature debut for director Enrico Casarosa, a veteran of the studio who has worked on releases like Ratatouille, Up, Incredibles 2and Soul. Casarosa is an Oscar nominee for directing the Pixar short La Luna, which was paired with their feature release Brave back in 2012.

See the official synopsis for Luca below:

Set in a beautiful seaside town on the Italian Riviera, the original animated feature is a coming-of-age story about one young boy experiencing an unforgettable summer filled with gelato, pasta, and endless scooter rides.  Luca shares these adventures with his newfound best friend, but all the fun is threatened by a deeply-held secret: he is a sea monster from another world just below the water’s surface.

Luca Portorosso will be voiced by Jacob Tremblay, with his best friend Alberto being voiced by Jack Dylan Grazer. Also among the voice cast are Maya Rudolph, Emma Berman, and Jim Gaffigan

Luca is currently scheduled to release in theaters on June 18, 2021. We’ll see if that changes, but for now you can watch the first trailer below:
