NEON Acquires Next Project From ‘Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie’ Filmmaker Matt Johnson

We may well be about to see the explosion of Matt Johnson as a creative force. He’s been killing it for years just slightly below the radar, but last year into this year really marked a new moment in his career. The passion for Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie has been something to behold, and later on in 2026, he directs the Anthony Bourdain biopic Tony, which could be a potential awards player. Well, NEON sure wants to be in the Johnson business, as they’ve acquired his next film. More below.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, NEON has picked up Johnson next directorial outing. It’s currently known as Untitled Matt Johnson Film, with Finn Wolfhard set for the starring role. The movie is inspired by the true story of a Vice Canada editor who recruited drug mules for an international cocaine smuggling ring, even out of their own offices. Wolfhard will play a Canadian investigative journalist who helped break the story to the world. More when we have it, but this is one to certainly look out for.
