Last year, one of the titles to really make an impact at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival for our own Joey Magidson was Omaha. In his review here, he said “John Magaro will break your heart.” Now, a year after its Sundance debut, the movie now has a trailer to share.
John Magaro stars in the film from Cole Webley, which Greenwich Entertainment will release in New York on April 24th, before expanding in May.
This is the set up for the movie, via publicist press release:
Set against the backdrop of the 2008 economic crisis, OMAHA follows a struggling father (Magaro) who sets out with his two children, Ella and Charlie, on a journey across the American West. What begins as a seemingly spontaneous trip gradually reveals deeper emotional stakes, as his daughter Ella begins to sense that her father may be carrying a more complicated truth.
At its core, OMAHA explores the uncertainties of parenthood through the eyes of a father who deeply loves his children but is unsure how best to protect them in the face of hardship. In his feature directorial debut, Cole Webley brings a personal, restrained approach that emphasizes emotional authenticity over sentimentality.
With its quiet, stripped-down storytelling, the film captures the unspoken bond within a family navigating instability. Magaro delivers a quietly commanding performance alongside a breakout turn by 11-year-old Molly Belle Wright. Written by Robert Machoian (The Killing of Two Lovers) and shot by Paul Meyers, ASC, the film’s intimate screenplay and striking visuals mirror the characters’ inner lives.
