Christmas Day yesterday brought a trio of football games to streaming platforms, including Prime Video on Amazon, but it also brought the reveal of the first teaser for Madden. The Amazon/MGM Studios original film tells the story of John Madden, who would become one of the great coaches in NFL history, before having his star shine even brighter as a broadcaster and namesake for the iconic football video game franchise.
Nicolas Cage stars as Madden, while Christian Bale plays Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis. The cast also includes Kathryn Hahn, Sienna Miller, John Mulaney, and Shane Gillis. David O. Russell co-writes and directs. Amazon/MGM Studios will release this one in 2026 on Thanksgiving, at least on Prime Video, if not also in theaters.
Here is the teaser trailer for Madden:

I like how David O. Russell was able to quickly bounce back from losing Regency over $100 million in one of the biggest box office bombs of the decade while Marielle Heller‘s chances of directing another feature film project are slim to nil after the mildly disappointing performance of a movie that was unceremoniously dumped onto Hulu a mere three weeks after a limited theatrical release.
Totally awesome and fair.
Oh, you noticed that too?
