At least from a distance, Noah Baumbach‘s next film Jay Kelly has always seemed like a major Oscar contender this season for Netflix. Considering the cast, led by George Clooney and Adam Sandler, as well as Baumbach’s talents, there was no reason to think otherwise. This morning, the streamer revealed a first look image, one you can see above, while also giving it a 2025 release date that should do nothing to make anyone think otherwise about its awards prospects.
According to Netflix, Jay Kelly will hit theaters on November 14th, with a streaming date of December 5th. Assuming the movie is good and has a successful festival season run, this definitely sets is up for success. The cast, in addition to Clooney and Sandler, includes Billy Crudup, Laura Dern, Grace Edwards, Stacy Keach, Riley Keough, Emily Mortimer, Patrick Wilson, Nicôle Lecky, Thaddea Graham, Jim Broadbent, Eve Hewson, Alba Rohrwacher, Lenny Henry, Josh Hamilton, and Greta Gerwig. Baumbach directs a screenplay he wrote with Mortimer. The tagline has also been revealed as “Everybody knows Jay Kelly, but Jay Kelly doesn’t know himself.“
