The Robbie Williams Song From ‘Better Man’ Has Been Disqualified From the Best Original Song Race

Here’s some unexpected Oscar news. The song Forbidden Road from Better Man, the unconventional Robbie Williams biopic, was looking like a potential Academy Award nominee in Best Original Song. It would have scored Williams an Oscar nomination, too. Well, that’s no longer happening, as you’re about to find out below.

According to Variety, the Better Man song has been disqualified from the Oscar race, just days after it made the Original Song shortlist. Apparently, it “incorporates material from an existing song that was not written for the film” which is a no-no. A letter went out to the Academy earlier today after the decision was made yesterday. The song has too many similarities to the song I Got a Name from The Last American Hero. So, it’s no out of the running. Update your Academy Award predictions accordingly.
