Robert Zemeckis has one of the more interesting filmographies to me of any Best Director winner. The man has won the Oscar, seen his film win the Academy Award for Best Picture, and put forth one of the classic trilogies of all-time. Yet, his modern resume is almost a parody of himself. It’s a real fall from grace, but one where so many of us are almost always waiting for a return to form. Zemeckis just has that power. With his latest work Here in theaters, I wanted to see how all of the director’s flicks stack up.
Below, you can see my ranking of nearly every movie Zemeckis has made. I’ve yet to see Here, but that didn’t stop me from looking at Tom Hanks a few days ago here. Also, it almost assuredly would just pad the bottom of the list. As for the top? Well, it depends who you ask, but for yours truly, the easy top three are, in alphabetical order, Back to the Future, Contact, and Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, but that’s just me. Find out how it all stacks up next…
Here now is how I would rank the films (sans Here) of Robert Zemeckis:
21. Pinocchio
20. The Witches
19. A Christmas Carol
18. The Polar Express
17. Welcome to Marwen
16. Beowulf
15. Used Cars
14. Allied
13. I Wanna Hold Your Hand
12. Flight
11. What Lies Beneath
10. The Walk
9. Death Becomes Her
8. Romancing the Stone
7 Back to the Future Part III
6. Back to the Future Part II
5. Cast Away
4. Forrest Gump
3. Contact
2. Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
1. Back to the Future

Haven’t seen Here yet and haven’t seen I Wanna Hold Your Hand or his version of Pinocchio. I think he’s made 8 great films (2 of them classics) and another 3 that I would tell anyone to see for a good time. Then he’s made another 8 that I couldn’t recommend anyone to see them for any reason. Remarkably interesting.
His career absolutely fascinates me.
