Amazon To Produce ‘Road House’ Remake with Jake Gyllenhaal Attached to Star

The 1989 cult classic Road House is getting a remake, and it is already assembling its cast and crew. Jake Gyllenhaal will star in this new version of the story, where he’ll play the role of a former MMA fighter who now works as a bouncer at a roadhouse located in the Florida Keys.

The film will be directed by Doug Liman (Chaos Walking, Edge of Tomorrow) and written by Anthony Bagarozzi (The Nice Guys) and Charles Mondry. The cast will also feature Billy Magnussen, Daniela Melchior, Gbemisola Ikumelo and Lukas Cage.

The original film saw Patrick Swayze in the role of James Dalton, a bouncer who tries to keep order at the Double Deuce in Jasper, Missouri. Dalton gets involved in a series of violent acts after refusing to work for the criminal known as Brad Wesley (Ben Gazzara).

Amazon’s version will be released through Prime Video, and it will be produced by Joel Silver, under his company Silver Pictures. The project was acquired by Amazon after their purchase of MGM in March of this year, which came with a price tag of $8.5 billion dollars.
