Angelina Jolie Tries to Stay Alive in the Trailer for ‘Those Who Wish Me Dead’

It’s been a while since we’ve seen Angelina Jolie on the screen in a dramatic picture, with the actress only popping up occasionally in children’s fantasy pictures like Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.

Outside of films in that realm, we haven’t seen her since 2015’s By the Sea, which she wrote and directed. Before that? 2010’s double header of Salt and The Tourist

All of this is to say that it’s exciting and a little surprising to see Jolie back headlining properties like Those Who Wish Me Dead again, and we’ve finally got a first look at the trailer for the new film.

Releasing in theaters and on HBO Max simultaneously on May 14th, Those Who Wish Me Dead tells the story of a survival expert (Jolie) who must traverse a wildfire burning through Montana as she attempts to protect a twelve-year old (Finn Little) who has witnessed a murder from assassins hot on their heels.

The film is based on a 2014 novel by Michael Kortya, with the script co-written by Kortya, Charles Leavitt, and Taylor Sheridan. Sheridan, an Academy Award nominee for his script for Hell or High Water, is also directing the picture, his first effort behind the camera since 2017’s Wind River. He also directed the entire first season of his Paramount television series Yellowstone

Nicholas Hoult and Aidan Gillen co-star in the film as those two assassins, with Jon Bernthal, Tyler Perry, and Tory Kittles also among the cast.

This is the first part of a big year for Jolie, as she also stars in the major new Marvel Cinematic Universe picture Eternals, coming later this year from likely Oscar winner Chloé Zhao.

Check out the trailer for Those Who Wish Me Dead below and see the film on May 14th:
