The Oscar submissions are coming in hot and heavy now for Best International Feature Film. Just yesterday, France selected Minotaur, while in previous days, Spain has picked La bola negra and Romania has chosen Fjord, all of which we’ve reported on. Additional selections include Austria picking Rose, Belgium choosing Coward, Japan selecting All of a Sudden, and South Korea tapping Possible Love. Now, we can add Poland to the mix, as their choice is Fatherland. More below.
According to Variety, Poland is going with Fatherland, Paweł Pawlikowski’s film which stars Sandra Hüller. Given Rose‘s inclusion in the race as well, Hüller stars in two movies that could be nominated in this Academy Award category. Fatherland also continues the Cannes Film Festival’s influence on this Oscar field. Stay tuned to see how it does during the precursor season, though it does feel like an early favorite to be nominated.
