For a little bit, it appeared that Daniels‘ next movie, after the massive success of Everything Everywhere All At Once, was going to land Ryan Gosling for a major role. Coming off of Project Hail Mary, that was a huge coup. Well, Gosling ended up dropping out, unfortunately. Now, we have details on why, some bits about the film, and who will potentially be replacing him. Details below,
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Matt Damon is in talks to replace Gosling. Apparently, the leads of the film, as you’ll see below, are teenagers, with the character Gosling was circling being a father. It seems that he wanted the role beefed up from its supporting status, which Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert agreed with, however timing for their California tax credit would not allow it. So, now it could be Damon in the role. Universal is distributing this one, which now can continue to move forward.
This is the plot related bit from THR:
The story for the feature is a described as involving global warming, time travel, as well as a possible superhero angle. And there are two timelines, one set in the 1980s and one set in the present day. The protagonists of the story are teens … at least in the 1980s-set timeline.
