Guillermo Del Toro’s reimagining of Frankenstein is returning to cinemas for one week in North America on January 16, 2026.
Frankenstein is the #3 most viewed film in the second half of 2025 with ~98M views on Netflix and has sold out 1000 shows globally.
Frankenstein will be shown in 35mm at the Paris Theater in New York City and the Egyptian Theatre in Los Angeles, and will play in theaters in the US including Chicago, Dallas, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Washington DC, Boston, San Francisco, Seattle, Orlando, and Springfield, VT.

Frankenstein is Oscar-winning director and DGA nominated Guillermo del Toro’s adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic tale about a brilliant but egotistical scientist who brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation. The film stars Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, Felix Kammerer, David Bradley, Lars Mikkelsen, Christian Convery, with Charles Dance, and Christoph Waltz. The film has been nominated for The Screen Actors Guild 32nd Annual Actor Awards presented by SAG-AFTRA for Cast in a Motion Picture and Jacob Elordi for Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role.

I think one of the reasons why this movie has been doing unexpectedly well among awards organizations, despite a mostly tepid response from audiences and critics, is because Netflix is heavily promoting it and conspicuously believes in its worthiness for recognition. Which is a big advantage relative to other distributors that seem to be hiding their films and act like they’re ashamed of them.
