To get a film made is a miracle, from top to bottom. In some ways, writing a movie from scratch, then seeing it actually enter production, get made, and then finally get released, is the least likely outcome in show business. For Nora Garrett, she fully expected to be exiting the entertainment industry, only for her first screenplay, After the Hunt, get attention, ultimately getting made with Julia Roberts in the lead role. Helmed by Luca Guadagnino, the film is opening in theaters this weekend after playing at the Venice Film Festival and New York Film Festival. To mark the occasion, I recently hopped on Zoom to talk to Garrett about the craziness of it all. Today, our chat comes your way.
Below, you can hear my discussion with Garrett. We have a lot of fun talking about the process of writing her film, as well as actually seeing it get made. This conversation is actually super important for any aspiring screenwriters, since as Garrett says here, she was ready to give it up and get a corporate job. Had she not seen fit to push ahead and get After the Hunt finished, the movie would never exist. Now, come Friday, it’ll be in theaters, which is surreal for her, but also a real feather in her cap. You’ll be able to check out the flick this weekend, but today, Garrett is here to hopefully inspire you all a bit.
Here now is my interview with After the Hunt writer Nora Garrett. Enjoy:

Thanks love hearing the success of a first time screenwriter getting through!
We aim to please!
