Well, this is both inevitable and still pretty surprising. After the massive success of Top Gun: Maverick, a lot of eyes turned towards the Tom Cruise racing film Days of Thunder as the next to get a long delayed sequel. Well, it seems like Paramount is fully moving forward with this one, as a director is in talks to helm the movie. More below.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jonathan Levine is the choice to direct a Days of Thunder sequel, with Cruise returning as Cole Trickle. No details on plot yet, though presumably he’ll be in a mentor role of some kind. The screenplay has been written by Will Staples. The studio is clearly high on Levine and his upcoming sports drama Mr. Irrelevant, so this is quite the vote of confidence. Stay tuned for more on this one.
