We’ve heard for a while now that a third Top Gun film is in the works. It took decades to get Top Gun: Maverick off the ground, so while a sequel to that hit movie makes a lot of sense for David Ellison and Paramount Pictures
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ellison has said that Top Gun 3 (or whatever it winds up being called) is a priority for Paramount and they want to be in the Tom Cruise business long term. He also has interest in more Star Trek, Transformers, and World War Z projects/sequels, so franchises are clearly on his mind. More when we have it, but it does sound like if Cruise and company want to make a third Top Gun, Paramount is all too happy to pay for it.

Having Pete Mitchell still flying jets as a full-bird Captain in his late fifties already strained credulity in Top Gun: Maverick. If they present him still flying for the U.S. Navy over forty years after graduating from the Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor program as a sexagenarian, that’ll be Naked Gun-level silliness.
