For years, Christopher Nolan has been bandied about as a pie in the sky choice to direct a James Bond film. He requires a level of creative control that Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson had never allowed. So, it always felt like a non-starter. Well, that’s apparently the case, but not due to a lack of interest on the part of Nolan.
According to Variety, in a longer piece about how Amazon MGM gained creative control of the Bond franchise, it was revealed that Nolan expressed interest in directing 007 after Tenet came out. However, Broccoli made it clear that she would never give final cut to him or any other filmmaker, essentially rejecting him. Is it shocking? No. Is it disappointing? Perhaps. Now, we can wait and see if the new powers that be go back to Nolan, but it seems like it’s mostly now a “what if?” scenario to ponder.

The closest Christopher Nolan ever came to directing a James Bond movie was Tenet, and The Dark Knight Rises to a lesser extent.
Since those are my two least-favorite movies from him, and his follow-up to Tenet ended up being one of his best films, I consider this rejection overall a positive for all parties involved.
Interesting take!
