For the first big deal of the Sundance Film Festival, NEON has announced it has acquired worldwide distribution rights to Together, which is written and directed by Michael Shanks and stars Alison Brie, Dave Franco, and Damon Herriman. It will open in cinemas on August 1st.
Brie, Franco, Erik Feig, Julia Hammer, Tim Headington, Max Silva, Andrew Mittman, and Mike Cowap are producing the movie, with Tango, Picturestart, and 30WEST financing. The film is executive produced by Tango’s Lia Buman and Neil Shah, Picturestart’s Samie Kim Falvey, 1.21’s Kai Dolbashian, Princess Pictures’ Laura Waters and Emma Fitzsimmons, and 30WEST’s Micah Green and Daniel Steinman.
The movie focuses on a couple moving to the countryside, where the limits of their relationship are tested after a supernatural encounter transforms “their love, their lives, and their flesh.” NEON will handle U.S. distribution of the movie, and international sales rights in Berlin. This acquisition comes a few months after the incredible success of Sean Baker’s Anora, which has won the Palme d’Or at Cannes and is now nominated for over six Academy Awards, including Best Picture. It is also the highest per-screen average of 2024 for an independent production.
NEON is also coming off the critical acclaim of Mohammad Rasoulof’s The Seed of the Sacred Fig, which was also Oscar-nominated, and Osgood Perkins’ Longlegs, sitting as the highest-grossing independent film of 2024 with a $75 million domestic tally. The studio will soon reteam with the filmmaker for The Monkey, which will hit cinemas on February 21.
