100 Films to Look Forward To in 2025

Welcome to 2025 everyone! With the calendar fully turned over from 2024, we’re about to get an entire slate of new movies to dig into. This coming weekend, the first major releases of the year will be hitting. Beyond that? Well, there’s literally everything. Four years ago, I posed this list for 2021 on January 1st (here), with the 2022 list here, as well as 2023’s list here, followed by last year’s list here, and I’ve often managed to hit on a lot of the major flicks. Of course, I didn’t hit on everything, and even some of the ones I did have graduated to this list. Today, you’ll see my collection of the 100 bits of cinema that I most think are worth considering during the impending twelve months. Fun, right? Yeah, I thought so.

What you’ll see below are just 100 films that I think might be interesting to you, to me, or potentially to all of us. The top of the list is very me, with both the Bruce Springsteen biopic Deliver Me From Nowhere and the Saw sequel Saw XI in the top two spots. There’s also a holdover in They Follow, while the next Yorgos Lanthimos film Bugonia debuts in the top five. Throw in James Gunn‘s Superman, some big new movies from A-list filmmakers like Paul Thomas Anderson, Kathryn Bigelow, plus more, and there’s lots of interesting titles here. We shouldn’t be spoiled for quality cinema in 2025.

Now, as always there are some big titles not on this list that potentially would have been, like the upcoming Jordan Peele film and Weapons from Barbarian filmmaker Zach Cregger. The latter movie would have cracked my top ten this year, for what that’s worth. I suspect we’ll see them on next year’s list. Still, this year’s has no shortage of fascinating flicks…
