Category Placements Decided on for ‘The Piano Lesson’

Netflix has several awards vehicles to navigate this season, with The Piano Lesson among them. When our own Joey Magidson saw it at the Telluride Film Festival, he had heavy praise for Danielle Deadwyler. His review here stated “Danielle Deadwyler is easily best in show, with a fierce performance that only gets more affecting as it goes on.” Well, it appears that Netflix has decided where to campaign Deadwyler as they seek Oscar attention for her work.

According to Variety, Deadwyler will be put into the running for Best Supporting Actress. John David Washington will shoot for Best Actor, while the likes of Ray Fisher, Samuel L. Jackson, and Michael Potts will each be in Best Supporting Actor. The streamer has a lot of plates spinning, so we shall see how this all turns out. For now, update your predictions accordingly.
