Anthony Bourdain Biopic ‘Tony’ Being Developed By A24 for Matt Johnson to Direct and Dominic Sessa to Star In

Ever since breaking out last year in The Holdovers, the industry has been waiting to see what Dominic Sessa might do next. He spoke about it a bit with our own Joey Magidson here during an interview on the awards trail. Well, we now know one project, and it’s an incredibly big one, with certain Oscar implications if all goes well.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sessa is set to star in Tony for A24 (who are in talks to produce), which is a biopic of none other than the late author, chef, and television star Anthony Bourdain. Matt Johnson is in talks to direct (coming off of BlackBerry, which Joey enjoyed here), with the screenplay having been written by Todd Bartels and Lou Howe. Bourdain was the subject of the well regarded documentary Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain (raved about by Joey here), as well as having been played by Bradley Cooper on the TV adaptation of Kitchen Confidential. If the film comes together and turns out well, expect Sessa to be in the awards conversation that year. Stay tuned.
