Ranking the Best Performances To Date from Chris Pine

Paramount Pictures

Chris Pine could easily have his career on autopilot. That’s not his vibe, clearly, and it makes him a really interesting actor to follow. With his filmmaking debut Poolman about to hit theaters, I decided to look at his resume to determine his best performances. The movies may not initially stand out as acting showcases, but in a few particular ones, Pine is 100% at the top of his game.

Now, I haven’t seen Poolman yet. From what colleagues have told me, it’s awful. At the same time, I’m so fascinated by the choices that Pine makes, it’s the sort of film I’m really curious about. So, I’ll see it soon. Either way, it doesn’t impact the work that’s come before, so there’s that.

Below, you’ll be able to see how I rank the Pine performances. Without question, the pinnacle of his career, at least for me, is Hell or High Water. He’s certainly iconic as Captain James T. Kirk in Star Trek, but Hell or High Water is his finest hour. Then, there’s last year’s gem in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, so there’s variety on hand as well. Your list? Well, it may be different, but this one is mine…

Here now is what I feel are Chris Pine’s best turns so far:

Warner Bros.

Honorable Mention: Don’t Worry Darling, The Finest Hours, and People Like Us

10. Carriers

9. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

8. Z for Zachariah

7. Outlaw King

6. Into the Woods

5. Smokin’ Aces

4. Wonder Woman

3. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves

2. Star Trek

1. Hell or High Water

Very much in agreement with your #1 pick. Incredible movie.

I think he’s probably my favorite of the Hunky White Guys Born in the Early 1980s Named “Chris” Club for precisely the reasons you laid out. He seems more genuinely adventurous with his choice of roles.
