Awards Radar Community: Which Films Are You Still Looking Forward To This Summer?

We’ve reached July, ladies and gentlemen. It’s the second half of the year, officially (so look out for my best of the first half piece tomorrow), which is wild. That being said, we’re only around the midpoint of the summer movie season. So, there’s tons of blockbusters and big films still to come, alongside some real entertaining counter programming. As such, a bonus Awards Radar Community Question came to me. Here it is: which films are you still looking forward to seeing this summer?

Hayley Atwell and Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning – Part One from Paramount Pictures and Skydance.

If it’s a blockbuster, the big one still to come is Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. Look for my review of that flick on Wednesday. Alongside Tom Cruise‘s latest action epic, there’s the one two punch of Barbie and Oppenheimer. Those likely represent the cream of the big movie crop, but they’re hardly alone. There’s also Haunted Mansion, Meg 2: The Trench, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem and more. Each of which could conceivably be your pick.

On the smaller end, we have Biosphere, Joy Ride, Theater Camp, and plenty others, both indie and mainstream, looking to be summer counter programming. If you’re not into blockbusters, these are just a small sampling of the indies that are competing for your attention. In the case of Biosphere, look out for my review soon, since it’s kind of an under the radar gem.

Searchlight Pictures

Whatever you’re most interested in, we want to know. Which movies are on your to-see list for the rest of the summer? We’re keen to find out, so don’t be shy…

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One being a close third kind of undercuts this optimism a bit, but the fact that the two (arguably) most anticipated movies of this summer are not connected to any kind of existing shared “cinematic universe” or a sequel to a decades-old franchise is so inspiring to me.
