‘The Last Duel’ Trailer Teases an A-List Historical Epic

When was the last time you saw a film described as a “historical epic”? Unless you saw 2016’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, then your answer as to what film it was may date back to the release of Braveheart. Simply put, we don’t get a plethora of these types of movies.

But if you’re a fan of historical epics, brace yourself – the first official trailer for Ridley Scott‘s (Alien, Blade Runner) newest feature The Last Duel has been released and it promises to be a riveting drama set in 14th-century France.

Starring Matt Damon, Adam Driver, Jodie Comer, and Ben Affleck with a script from Nicole Holofcener, Affleck, and Damon, the film, which is based on actual events, unravels long-held assumptions about France’s last sanctioned duel between Jean de Carrouges and Jacques Le Gris, two friends turned bitter rivals.

“Carrouges is a respected knight known for his bravery and skill on the battlefield. Le Gris is a Norman squire whose intelligence and eloquence make him one of the most admired nobles in court. When Carrouges’ wife, Marguerite, is viciously assaulted by Le Gris, a charge he denies, she refuses to stay silent, stepping forward to accuse her attacker, an act of bravery and defiance that puts her life in jeopardy. The ensuing trial by combat, a grueling duel to the death, places the fate of all three in God’s hands”, an official synopsis reads.

Check out the trailer for the film below:

The Last Duel is scheduled to be released in theatres on October 15, 2021, through 20th Century Studios.
