James Wan Returns to the Horror Genre in ‘Malignant’ Trailer

Following James Wan’s contributions to the DCEU in the form of 2018’s Aquaman, Wan returns to his roots to direct an original horror film with Malignant.

Previously known for directing Saw, Insidious and the first two Conjuring films, Wan’s newest feature blends the slasher and supernatural genre.

Until the trailer’s release, Warner Bros. remained secretive regarding the plot, but now there’s a better idea of what the film is about.

Starring Annabelle Wallis, the film follows a woman who is able to see murders as they happen. This also comes while her character comes to understand her tormented past.

The highly stylized trailer sees rooms and furniture change and evolve around the character as she experiences these visions.

Malignant is scheduled for release on September 10, 2021 both in theaters and on HBOMAX.
