Sunday Scaries: Welcome to a Terrifyingly Fun New Weekly Column

The Sunday Scaries are upon us! Yes, as the weekend concludes, most of us feel an oncoming sense of anticipatory dread about the week ahead. Anxiety about work manifests itself into a feeling that’s known as the Sunday Scaries. However, we at Awards Radar are here to combat that, but taking back the name. Now, we want you think about a horror-centric piece on the site when you hear the term. So, let me be the first to announce that each and every single weekend, look for a Sunday Scaries piece here, tackling one form of the genre or another. At the very least, it’ll take your mind off of how quickly Monday is coming…

What might you find in this column? Well, today is just the announcement, but upcoming pieces could be on anything. One week may feature a musing on Oscar and horror. Of course, the Academy Awards are getting better about scary movies, but it’s still a work in progress. Another week could be on a specific film or filmmaker. Some could be obvious, though others could be a bit off-center. I can assure you right now that we’ll be talking about Kevin Smith‘s horror flicks, especially Red State and Tusk. This month, in fact, with Spiral coming out, we’ll be talking more about Saw (something we’ve done with gusto here and here). That’s just the tip of the iceberg, too. Sunday Scaries can really be anything we want it to be, so expect a bunch of changes and experimentation in the weeks and months to come.

Going forward, it won’t just be yours truly contributing, either. Everyone at Awards Radar is welcome, and I know some of our staff, like Myles Hughes and Kendall Tinston, are major horror buffs. So, expect pieces from them in the near future. Moreover, we’d love to hear from you all about what you’d like out of the column. Sunday Scaries is meant to gently guide you out of the weekend, hopefully with a fun article, so your input will prove to be invaluable.

This is going to be a really enjoyable series to do, I just know it. Plus, it gives you all another thing to consistently look forward to. The plan has been in motion for a few weeks, but now that we’re clear of the Oscars, it’s time to put it into motion. Sit tight for next week, when the series really hits the ground running…

More next week, but it’s official, ladies and gentlemen…the Sunday Scaries are here!

This is great news since Horror is my favourite film genre.. I would like to hear from all of you which horror films in your opinion deserved Oscar nominations in various categories but didn’t get them and also maybe name a few less well known Indie horrors that deserved a much wider audience. Very much looking forward to Sunday Scaries!
