I’m a huge fan of Girls State, which speaks not just to the documentary’s power, but to the young women who populate it. When you watch the film, it’s impossible not to become invested in the stories of Cecilia Bartin, Faith Glasgow, and Emily Worthmore, as well as plenty of other participants. The girls literally make the movie what it is. I spoke to filmmakers Amanda McBaine and Jesse Moss here, but today it’s time to chat with Bartin, Glasgow, and Worthmore.
In my review of Girls State (here), I had the following to say about the girls at its core:
The subjects really do set this apart…it’s the trio at the center of the Governor race that captivated me most. The campaign speeches speak for themselves, but I’ll just say this…if we actually had a race for office between Cecilia Bartin, Faith Glasgow, and Emily Worthmore, we’d be a better country. These campers showcase what’s best about America and the political process, from all across the ideological spectrum.
Below, you can hear my conversation with Bartin, Glasgow, and Worthmore. With the documentary out on Apple TV+ now, I wanted to ask them about if they’ve been able to process the whole experience. We also get into what having cameras on them was like, as well as how being in Girls State has impacted them today. They’re lovely young women and have very interesting things to say. Once you check out the doc, you need to listen to these future leaders!
Here now is my interview with Girl State subjects Emily Worthmore, Cecilia Bartin, and Faith Glasgow. Enjoy:
Girls State is streaming on Apple TV+ right now!
