Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild Rewards ‘Birds of Prey’ and ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’

Ma Rainey's Black Bottom (2020): Viola Davis as Ma Rainey. Cr. David Lee / Netflix

The Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild (MUAHS) have handed out their 8th annual awards, with the film categories being split between Birds of Prey and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, each earning two prizes for their Make-Up and Hairstyling, with Birds of Prey in the contemporary categories and Ma Rainey in the period ones.

With Birds of Prey not nominated in the Make-Up and Hairstyling category at this year’s Oscars, could this be an indicator of Ma Rainey taking home the prize on Oscar night?

One of its competitors, Pinocchio, did manage to earn an award of its own from the MUAHS, for Special Make-Up Effects. Still, the odds might be looking good for Ma Rainey come April 25th.
