Ready for some anti-hero gore? James Gunn is prepared to bring it to you this summer. Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, and many other high-profile actors star in Gunn’s “soft reboot” of 2016’s Suicide Squad called (get ready) The Suicide Squad. The movie is set to hit theaters and HBO Max on August 6.
The story follows Harley Quinn, Bloodsport, Peacemaker and a vast collection of DC favorites as they join the super-shady Task Force X to get out of Belle Reve prison. They are heavily-armed and dropped on the treacherous island of Corto Maltese. Chaos follows.
The film’s ensemble cast also includes the likes of Joel Kinnaman, Michael Rooker, Viola Davis, and Pete Davidson amongst others.
James Gunn, known by most as the man behind Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy films, joined to write and direct in late 2018, promising a wild new take on the superhero format. What we’re expected to get is sure to be nothing less than R-rated, action-packed “superhero” antics that many fans are speculating will be akin to that of an R-rated Guardians of the Galaxy.
