Now that The Social Reckoning is out in theaters, any remaining mystery about the film is gone. We know that it’s more of a companion piece to The Social Network than a true sequel, and Sony is very much following that path in regards to the script that Aaron Sorkin wrote. While he won Best Adapted Screenplay for The Social Network, any awards contention for this one will actually be in Best Original Screenplay. More below.
According to Gold Derby, not only has Sony decided to submit the film for consideration in Original Screenplay, as opposed to Adapted Screenplay, it has been approved as such by the Writers Guild. So, update those predictions accordingly. If Sorkin ends up with another Oscar nomination, this time for The Social Reckoning, it would be his fifth, but only second in Original. So, stay tuned.
