Awards Radar Community: What Has Been Your Favorite ‘Spider-Man’ Film?

This weekend, audiences are flocking to Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the latest big screen adventure for one of the most popular superheroes there is. Featuring several different interpretations of the character over the years, the most consistent is Peter Parker as Spidey’s alter ego, though Miles Morales is the main alternative. Recently, he’s been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, launching him to new heights. With the film in theaters, an Awards Radar Community Question on the webslinger seemed to be in order. Here goes…what has been your favorite Spider-Man movie so far?

My rave review here of Spider-Man: Brand New Day began like so, in case you didn’t see it earlier on in the week:

After losing everyone he cares about in order to protect them, where do we find Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Brand New Day? Well, we find him where he left him, which is committed to being a full time Spider-Man. The story of this fourth solo adventure, however, is just as considered with Peter as it is with Spidey. On his own and very much struggling with things, this Marvel Cinematic Universe outing feels the most like a Spider-Man comic story, in almost all of the right ways. Are there building blocks for future outings in the MCU? Yes, both for the webslinger and also for the larger universe, but at its core, this is about following our hero on the evolution of his journey. I found it fully engaging, occasionally surprising, and resoundingly effective. Go figure, maybe the problem isn’t superhero movies on the whole? Perhaps it just comes down to making a good one, which this certainly is…

Spider-Man: Brand New Day does a very good job investing you in Peter’s story, which is at its most dramatic arc to date. There are other Marvel characters playing in this sandbox as well, and the story integrates them well, but at its core, this is an exploration of who Peter Parker is, who he might become, and what it means to actually be Spider-Man, without the support system he once drew such strength from. Putting the flick on a ground level is a strong choice that pays dividends, especially when the antagonistic threat appears to be a much more supernatural one than he’s used to facing off with.

If you’re a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe Spider-Man, with Tom Holland leading the way, we’re all ears. I know this is my favorite incarnation of not just Spidey, but Peter Parker as well. He’s just hit on it in a way that pleases me to no end. Film wise, is it Spider-Man: No Way Home for you? Maybe Spider-Man: Homecoming? Or, is it now Spider-Man: Brand New Day? All options are on the table.

On the other hand, if you’re into the Sam Raimi / Tobey Maguire films, or even the Andrew Garfield ones, let us know. The same goes for the Spider-Verse animated movies. The Maguire and Raimi era does feature Spider-Man 2, which is a classic superhero flick at this point. Then, there’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which literally won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Those two options will certainly draw in a lot votes.
