Stanley Tucci is among the most reliable screen presences that we have. Not just an ace character actor, he has a charm and a likability that you just can’t teach. There’s a reason that his food/travel documentary series on CNN, Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy, has made him something of a new Anthony Bourdain to people. This week, Tucci is back playing one of his iconic roles again in The Devil Wears Prada 2. Drifting off of that, it felt like the right time to finally do a proper ranking of his best work. So, that’s exactly what I did.
As mentioned above, this weekend Tucci can be seen in The Devil Wears Prada 2. I still haven’t gotten around to it, but his work in the first one was heavily praised, helping to cement his status as a beloved actor to a whole new generation of audience members. So, returning for the sequel is a welcome presence for many.
Below, you can see how Tucci stands in my book. I will always go to the mat for him as nomination worthy in Easy A, which is my favorite of his performances. Not far behind, we have Spotlight, which also should have gotten him an Academy Award nomination. Also, one of his most underrated performances is in Supernova (I spoke to him about it right here), which is a rare leading role for him. Throw in Conclave and we have an unimpeachable top four. While I also defend The Terminal and love him in it, I shan’t be doing the same with his Oscar nominated turn in The Lovely Bones. What else cracks my list? You’re about to find out…
Here now is my ranking of the best of Stanley Tucci. Behold:
Honorable Mention: America’s Sweethearts, The Devil Wears Prada, It Could Happen to You, Road to Perdition, Sidewalks of New York, and Some Velvet Morning
10. Julie & Julia
9. The Hunger Games
8. Margin Call
7. The Daytrippers
6. Worth
5. The Terminal
4. Supernova
3. Conclave
