Interview: Stanley Tucci Talks ‘Supernova’ and Being Labeled a “Character Actor”

Stanley Tucci is an actor we all appreciate, but arguably should appreciate even more. As you’ll hear in our interview, I told him that he’s the marrow of any film he’s in, holding things together. For someone like Tucci, who often is in a smaller yet essential supporting role, that’s the mark of a job well done. However, he got to go above and beyond with Supernova, in which he stars opposite Colin Firth. My review of the movie can be found here, but he’s excellent in it, delivering some of his finest work. So, even when only allotted a very small amount of time to speak with him, it was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.

Below, you can hear my conversation with Tucci. We touch on what he looks for in roles, why Supernova was so special, and more. Interestingly, he said he wasn’t particularly a fan of being labeled a character actor, which makes sense, given what the phrase implies. Overall, he’s just a lovely man, someone who we can see just as easily in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we can in an independent drama. This indie has him getting some Oscar buzz, so be sure to check it out, as the flick just came out this past weekend. In the meantime, give this chat a listen, then go watch the film…

Here now is my interview with Supernova star Stanley Tucci. Enjoy:

Supernova is available to watch now!
