‘Top Gun 3’ Confirmed at Paramount with Tom Cruise Returning as Maverick

Paramount Pictures used its CinemaCon presentation to officially confirm that Top Gun 3 is in development, with Tom Cruise set to return to one of his most iconic roles. The script is currently being written.

Cruise will once again reunite with longtime collaborator Jerry Bruckheimer, continuing a partnership that has defined the high-flying action series since the original 1986 film. While specific plot details were not disclosed during the presentation, the project is expected to build on the massive success of Top Gun: Maverick, which reintroduced audiences to Pete “Maverick” Mitchell and became a global box office phenomenon.

The confirmation signals Paramount’s confidence in the franchise’s continued longevity, especially after Maverick proved that legacy sequels can resonate with both longtime fans and a new generation of moviegoers. Cruise’s return is particularly significant, as his commitment to practical filmmaking and large-scale spectacle has become a defining element of the series’ identity.

No release date or additional casting details were revealed, but with Cruise officially back in the cockpit, anticipation for the next chapter is already taking off.
