Ranking the Best Performances So Far From Rachel McAdams

“Mean Girls” (2004)
Cinematography by Daryn Okada

Rachel McAdams is yet another Mean Girls success story. Much like her co-star Amanda Seyfried, she’s been able to graduate from teen fare to prestige dramas, even scoring an Oscar nomination for her supporting work in Spotlight. She approached another one, at least on the fringes, with Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret, and while it didn’t happen, it shows just how far she’s come. McAdams is officially a movie star and also a potential awards winner when she signs up for a strong project. With Send Help now in theaters, it’s a great moment to go ahead and rank her top performances so far.

This weekend, she tries something a little different with Send Help. I haven’t been able to make the time to see it yet, unfortunately, but I’ve been keenly interested in the film, given how much I like McAdams and how big a fan of Dylan O’Brien I am. The movie has gotten strong reviews, with much praise directed at McAdams for her against type performance. I’m sure when I update this list, Send Help will be on it.

Below, you can see how McAdams’ best line up for me. It’s hard to argue against Mean Girls and Spotlight (her lone Academy Award nomination to date) as her shining moments, in whichever order you prefer, but Disobedience is hardly far behind. Then, there’s some dealer’s choice, but for me, it’s About Time, Game Night, The Notebook, and Red Eye. If you’ve seen Send Help, be sure to chime in with where that would land on this list.

Here now is my ranking of the best performances to date from Rachel McAdams. Behold:
