Camp ‘Crystal Lake’ Opens this October On Peacock

It looks like I will be going back to camp on October 15th, Camp Crystal Lake. Peacock made a splash with new details about the much anticipated Friday the 13th series dropping news of a release date, a teaser trailer, and first look pics that finally give a fans a look. Fans of the film series know it is not all about the maniacal hockey-masked, Jason Voorhees.

While the iconic slasher is the horrifying star, the horror series owes just as much to his mother Pamela, played by Linda Cardellini. Every killer has an origin story, and this one starts with mom.

As described by, Peacock, Crystal Lake is, ‘a prequel to the Friday the 13th franchise, the series follows single mother Pam Voorhees who has been unable to shake her grief after her young, sickly son Jason tragically drowned in the town lake almost a year before. When two strangers arrive at Pam’s door digging into her past, a disturbing chain of events is set into motion, leaving the townspeople of Crystal Lake wondering: just who is Pam Voorhees?’

When it comes to Pam Voorhees, IYKYK. Long time fans will step into the series with certain expectations, while new fans may be surprised to find Pam is not going to be winning PTA Mom of the Year. Though she surely is a dedicated mother – perhaps too dedicated.

Playing young Jason, is Callum Vinson of Chucky, who will flesh out much more of the days of Jason before the machete and the goalie mask. Brad Caleb Kane (IT: Welcome to Derry), the series showrunner and writer, seems like a perfect selection to tell the tale.

The eight-episode series is directed by Michael Lennox (Derry Girls), Celine Held & Logan George (Caddo Lake), and Quyen Tran (The Pitt).

If you are wondering about the above, according to the Harry Manfedini the original composer behind the original film’s score, this is the correct pronunciation of the infamous ch ch ch ha ha ha often repeated by fans. According to Manfedini, “He came up with the sound “ki ki ki, ma ma ma”, based on the line “Kill her mommy!”, which Mrs. Voorhees recites repeatedly in the final reel.” This should give you a slight taste for what will be on the Crystal Lake menu.

The streamer also shared that the A24-produced series will not be a weekly series, but drop all eight episodes on the 15th.

Awards Radar had Cardellini on the TV Topics podcast. And while no major details were shared, Cardellini’s excitement for the series was evident in her killer smile. If it is anything like her previous work, Cardellini is going to absolutely slay.

As heard in the trailer, “It is like someone put a curse on this town. It all started when that kid drowned last summer. There’s something in these woods, and all it knows how to do is kill.”

Sounds like a relaxing place to stay. We’ll see you at camp Crystal Lake this October.
